My name is Janet Motah, the program Data and Monitoring officer. Unlike most of the MTG staff members, I joined Moving The Goalposts not as player, but as an Intern in August 2011 after my studies in Mass Communication.
I got interested in MTG when I saw girls playing football and taking up leadership roles. I later registered and started playing football at Mnarani league field. The most interesting part is that I had never played football in my life and I was not used to seeing girls playing football for fun with commitment. I became a resource center volunteer after the internship and enjoyed my time with the children, volunteers, staff members and the community that MTG worked with.
I am a journalist by profession with experience in Monitoring and Evaluation. I sat for my Kenya Certificate of Primary Education in 2002 and later joined Lwak Girls High School in Siaya County for my Secondary Education. I joined Multi Media University in 2009 where I studied Media and Communication.
I got more experience in working with the community and learnt how to work with children through MTG. The organization has been a turning point in my life by building my capacity in areas that are not limited to child protection, advocacy, library management and sports for development.
I like my job, especially writing MTG stories, data collection and photography because I feel motivated when I hear girls’ tell their stories on how their lives continues to change through their involvement in MTG activities. I like the way MTG empowers the girls and young women through football.
