Happy International Literacy Day!
This year’s theme focuses on “Literacy teaching and learning in the COVID_19 crisis and beyond,” especially on the role of educators and the changing methods of teaching. The recent COVID_19 crisis has disrupted the learning of youth and adults globally, with most learning institutions and programs having being suspended. We are cognizant of the fact that more youth and adults in the world especially the most vulnerable groups, still cannot access education and literacy programmes. Literacy is a fundamental human right and the basis for any individual’s ability to learn. It is essential for social and human development and provides individuals with skills to transform their lives and society. As we celebrate the day, we pledge our commitment towards promoting access to quality education and learning opportunities to girls and young women. As an organization, we managed to develop interventions that have ensured our literacy programmes continue to reach our beneficiaries during the…
Atletico Madrid’s Star Periods Initiative for MTG Girls
Football can be a lifeline to so many people. It is more than just a game, it’s a connection between millions of people around the world. It is passion, it is perseverance, it is dedication, it is happiness, it is heartache- but most of all, football is a community. In 2019, Australian and Atletico Madrid midfielder, Alex Chidiac, joined Common Goal, a movement of professional football players with a shared mission to build a future in which football becomes the world’s greatest catalyst for social change. She pledged 1% of her salary to support Moving the Goalpost’s (MTG), a unique sport for development organization that uses football to empower over nine thousand girls in the rural and urban areas of Kenya’s Coastal region. A girl born into a poor family in these regions inevitably enters a cycle of poverty. A girl in these families is less likely to be educated…

What We Are Prioritizing With COVID-19
As the world comes together to face the COVID-19 pandemic, there are many questions around how each of us can play a role in supporting our local and global communities. I wanted to reach out to all of Moving the Goalposts’ supporters to share an update about MTG’s priorities during these challenging times. All of our responses are rooted in our commitment as an organization to the health, wellbeing, and empowerment of girls and young women in our communities. PEOPLE MTG is taking care of all of our people – our local and remote staff – by instituting a remote work policy for all of our team members. We mandated this policy in accordance with the Kenyan government’s decree for all citizens to limit interaction and with the goal of maintaining a safe and productive work environment. MTG is further supporting our staff by maintaining the World Health Organization’s recommendations…
FATHERS’ WORDS ARE LIKE THERMOSTAT IN THE LIVES OF THEIR CHILDREN
A thermostat is a component which senses the temperature of a system and regulates temperature of a room or device. This is unlike the thermometer which just measures the room temperature. On the third Sunday of the June we shall commemorate the role and impact of fathers and father figures in our lives and those of children in general. I allude the impact of a father to that of a thermostat. The following real life story will illustrate more: In one of my counseling sessions with a client, I had this rare and touching encounter of a boy who was yearning for father’s words of appreciation in his life. The boy had been referred to me by the school administration to counsel him because his academic performance had nosedived. The boy’s sincerity was a key ingredient for this particular counseling session; he made it productive and effective. He stated that…
